Sleep-Deprived Parenting Thought For the Day #4676b

Yo, all the mommas and poppas out there in the motherfuckin’ house: have you ever wanted to, um, EAT your baby? I don’t mean actually eat or anything like that, but sometimes I look over at Lucy and see her chubby cheeks or her nubbin nose, and I kinda want to put her in my mouth.

The worst are her feet. They are so goddamn cute. Her toes should be used as antidepressants. I mean, aren’t they like, completely scrumptious?

Yeah, shut up, I’m going to bed.

    It’s 11:30 pm here in Hawaii…I’ve already had dinner…and then I saw those feet…
    Mmmmmmm, I’m suddenly hungry.
Baby feet are better than dessert.

I think it’s really sweet, Ian, the way you’re trying to continue to talk about the world at large – television, even – when all you obviously want to talk about are your daughter’s feet. It’ll be interesting to see how detached a blogger-who-is-a-new-father you remain.
    It doesn’t look hopeful.

I LOVE BABY FEET! They are so damn cute! I still love to look at my 5 year old’s feet and to tickle them. The little toes are so perfect!
In fact, I love my daughter’s body for the sheer beauty of it and the comfort level she has in her own skin! I love to watch her dance around and be free with her body. I hope that she can hold onto that self-love and ideal body image for as long as she can. The body image disorders that so many young girls go through at such a young age are a crying shame. Why do girls berate themselves so! I try to do my part by NOT talking about weight loss or “fat-ness.” I do my best to embrace my own body and talk about how great it is to be healthy. She needs to see that I like ME too, just like she likes herself. Despite my own misgivings about weight gain, etc., I send the message that Mama is beautiful! I let Helen know how beautiful she is. As Helen likes to say, “Yes, I am beautiful on the outside and on the inside!”

Ok, those are some pretty cute feet. I have to agree, I nibble on my girl quite a bit. I like the inside of her arms by her elbows though.

Our daughter smelled like cinnamon, I swear. Our son was slightly musky.
I used to bury my face in my babies’ soft tummies and inhale, then give them a big smackin’ kiss on their belly-buttons. I couldn’t get enough of those little sweethearts. Yeah, I’d kiss their feet too, right on the soles.
Yum, yum, yum. Baby aromatherapy helped me get through those sleep-deprived days and nights.

Holy crap, I am lame. I stopped reading everyone’s blogs for a couple of weeks out of sheer mental exhaustion. I come back and find that the baby arrived and I didn’t congratulate you yet! So, major congratulations! How long till she gets her first pair of baby Chuck Taylors?

We still want to eat Zaid. It was very weird, but we both felt it strongly when he was first born. Now he’s all independent and doesn’t want to be hugged/eaten, but he’ll sit still on my lap for stories, which is very nice.
As for your other entries, which I fear I’m too late on:
    1. Advice. Hang on. Period. Endure it. Walking Zaid around SF to put him to sleep was, at times, so difficult I couldn’t stand it, but we somehow kept going.
Also, Mars Audiac Quintet by Stereolab is excellent lullaby music.
    2. Word on the father thing. Feminism is as much a challenge to men to get their shit together as it is for women to fight against patriarchy.
    Go Heels, DB

Who can argue with Jonathan Swift?
“ I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout.”
