I just got through an 18-hour recording session in the studio, and have to design and make three insane costumes in time for Halloween this evening AND have a script due, so I will make this a code word entry…

Okay, so I get some of you don’t like coconut. That is no reason to extol the virtues of shit like Bit o’ Honey or Mary Janes, which are the candy equivalent of ZERO KELVIN. Be that as it may be at it is, please list your seven favorite easily-available candy brands. I shall go first:

1. Mounds (Bounty in the U.K.)

2. York Peppermint Patty (yummy, but way less fat calories)

3. Three Musketeers (ditto)

4. Kit-Kat

5. Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip (lasts forever)

6. cinnamon Chiclets from gum machine

7. Welch’s Fruit Snacks

made with real fruit juice!

    Nibs (or if not, then…)
    Pop Rocks
Anyone remember “circus peanuts” or are they just a Midwest thing? Those things made me vomit orange on more than one occasion. Btw, not a brand but I love candy corn. Mmmmmmm, put high fructose corn syrup in a waxy corn-shaped kernel!

  2. killian

    Mary Janes!
    Hershey’s Cookies and Cream
    I am with Jif on Candy Corn: fabulous stuff! {my dad LOVED circus peanuts; normally a total health nut (he completed 40 marathons in his lifetime), after a visit we would find random fossilized circus peanuts in various places all over the house-testimony to his sneaking around with them! :-D}

I have never considered this before, but here are some of my faves:
    Mary Janes
    Mild Duds
It’s amazing I have any teeth left.

  4. Big Scott

    Reese’s cups
    Special Dark Chocolate
    Peanut M&Ms
    Sweet Tarts
    Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip
… and *NOT* Twizzlers, which should only be used in emergencies with a soldering gun to stop leaks in the plumbing of your home.
My son just got introduced to Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip yesterday afternoon. His reactions in order: blatant skepticism, disappointment with the “too-sweet” stick, piqued interest at the introduction of the purple powder, surprise at the sweet-tart goodness of the properly proportioned dip of fun, manic episode of making sure that every iota of powder made it onto that little white stick, round two of disappointment with the “too-sweet” stick, greed — “Daddy, I have four more of these in my bag. Can I have all of them after lunch?”

  5. CM

    1. Peanut butter Twix (original, before they changed it)
    2. Peanut M&Ms
    3. Butterfinger
    4. Kit Kat
    5. Sno Caps
They need to sell the Fun Dip sticks on their own. They’re yummy!!
York may have less fat, but it probably has more sugar to make up for it.

I think there’s a mysterious awesomeness to Bit-O-Honey. There’s something great about a candy that has lasted 87 years even though its dried up nougat that tastes vaguely honey-esque incorporating ground up almonds with the mouth feel of sand.
They’re like the beverage Tab, which becomes curiously addictive even though it never stops tasting like a chemical spill.
All time favorite has to be hersheys kisses with almonds.
As a type 2 diabetic I don’t eat candy unless it comes in tiny packages.

  7. Mark Mays

There are only three edible candies; Zagnut bars, Bottle Caps and Smarties. I will eat Butterfingers but only after I’ve removed as much of the offending milk chocolate as I can.

Caramel cremes, sprees, sweettarts, runts, gobstoppers, jolly ranchers and gummy bears. The sticks of the Fun Dip are very good. I don’t dislike chocolate, but candy is so much better than chocolate to me.

  9. Greg T.

This is roughly the order in which I raid my son’s candy bag:
    Hershey’s Special Dark
    Peanut M&Ms
    Kit Kat
    Almond Joy
    Caramel Cremes

  10. Kmeelyon

    1. Peanut M&M’s
    2. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
    3. Hershey Almonds
    4. York Peppermint Patty
    5. Almond Joy
    6. Kit-Kat
    7. Snickers
I guess unless you’re a Peppermint Patty, if you don’t have nuts, I’m not interested in you.
(Somehow that sounds a bit more perverse typed out than it did when it was just in my head.)
